Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 27, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Folsom Innovations ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use RecipeVersion ("the Service"). RecipeVersion is a free web application for creating, publishing, saving, versioning, remixing, comparing, and improving recipes over time.

By using RecipeVersion, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and username. If you sign up with a password, we store a one-way hash of your password — we never store your password in plain text. If you sign in with Google, we receive your verified email address, name, and Google account identifier (see the Google User Data section below for details).

Profile information: You may optionally provide a bio, avatar image, and notification preferences.

Recipe and content data: Recipes, versions, ingredients, tools, steps, notes, cover images, categories, cuisines, meal types, methods, tags, dietary flags, fermentation details, preservation details, remixes, saved recipes, and suggested edits.

Feedback and support: Feedback text, feedback type, current page URL, optional contact email, optional browser diagnostics, and feedback status.

Operational data: Authentication and session data, IP address, browser and device information, client error reports, product event records, and timestamps. This data is used for security, debugging, and service improvement.

Google User Data

If you choose to sign in with Google, RecipeVersion requests access to your basic Google profile information using the following OAuth 2.0 scopes: openid (to verify your identity), email (your verified email address), and profile (your name). These are classified as non-sensitive scopes by Google.

How we use Google user data: We use your Google email address and name solely to create and authenticate your RecipeVersion account. Your email address becomes your login identifier and is used for account-related emails (verification, password reset, notifications you opt into). Your name is used as your default display name, which you can change at any time in Settings.

How we store Google user data: Your Google email and display name are stored in our database alongside your RecipeVersion account record. Your Google account identifier is stored to link your Google account to your RecipeVersion account. We do not store your Google access token or refresh token beyond the authentication session.

How we share Google user data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your Google user data. We do not share your Google user data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to providing the RecipeVersion service. Google user data may be processed by our hosting and infrastructure providers (Cloudflare, email delivery) solely as needed to operate the Service.

RecipeVersion's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to: provide, maintain, and secure RecipeVersion; authenticate your account and manage sessions; send service-related emails (verification codes, password resets, notification preferences you choose); enable recipe publishing, search, versioning, Cookbook saves, remixes, and suggested edits; review feedback and resolve issues; prevent abuse and enforce our Terms; monitor performance, diagnose errors, and improve the Service.

We use aggregated, non-identifying operational data to understand reliability, plan capacity, and improve features.

Public Content

Published public recipes, recipe metadata, recipe versions, remix relationships, and public profile information are visible to anyone, including visitors who are not signed in. Public recipes may be indexed by search engines, shared, saved, remixed, or referenced by other users.

If you delete your account, private drafts and account data are deleted. Public published recipes may be retained in anonymized form so that public links, remixes, saves, and version history continue to work. Deleted-user profile pages are not browsable.

How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for advertising or cross-context behavioral targeting.

We share information with service providers that help operate RecipeVersion, including: Cloudflare (edge delivery, security, DNS, and image storage), Resend or another SMTP provider (transactional email), and Google (when you use Google sign-in). These providers process information only as needed to provide services to us.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse or security issues, or in connection with a business transfer involving RecipeVersion or Folsom Innovations.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

RecipeVersion uses essential cookies for authentication, sessions, security, and basic operation. These are necessary for signed-in features to work.

RecipeVersion does not use advertising cookies, marketing pixels, session replay tools, or third-party analytics cookies. If non-essential tracking tools are added in the future, this policy and the Cookies page will be updated before those tools are used.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain information for as long as needed to provide RecipeVersion, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and support backups.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Account deletion removes or anonymizes account-linked data as described in this policy. Feedback may be retained without your account attached so product issues can still be reviewed. Backups, logs, and security records may persist for a limited period before deletion through normal retention cycles.

Your Choices and Rights

You can update your display name, bio, and notification preferences in Settings. You can delete your account in Settings. You can disconnect Google sign-in by using password-only login (set a password via the Forgot Password flow, then your Google link is no longer required).

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or objection related to personal information. You may also have the right to appeal a privacy decision or lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

To make a privacy request, use the in-app Feedback button or contact us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

RecipeVersion is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to RecipeVersion, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect RecipeVersion and the information we process, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No internet service can guarantee complete security.
